Splash Mountain

Splash Mountain is a log ride located at Disneyland park as well as other Disney theme parks around the world.  This attraction is based on the movie, Song of the South.  It is a very popular attraction and we have compiled some trivia and fun facts about this zip-a-dee-do-dah log ride!!!

  • The large drop is 53 feet with three smaller drops
  • The attraction was conceived in 1983 by famed Imagineer Tony Baxter who also helped create Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Star Tours, Indiana Jones Adventure, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, and much more
  • It uses many of the Audio-Animatronic characters from America Sings, a former attraction in Tomorrowland.  However, all of the main characters were specifically designed for Splash Mountain
  • At the time it was built, it was the most expensive attraction designed by Walt Disney Imagineering, with a cost of $75 million, far over its original budget
  • Its original concept name was Zip-A-Dee River Run.
  • Before the logs enter the indoor portion, snoring is heard emanating from Brer Bear’s cave. The snoring is a tribute to the original entrance to Bear Country (the former name of Critter Country) where a bear named Rufus was heard snoring from a cave.
  • The collective weight of the riders generally determines the degree to which they get wet.
  • Each Audio-Animatronic can carry out 45 seconds of movement and dialogue before a loop function restarts the sequence from the beginning.
  • The voices of Br’er Rabbit and Br’er Fox are voiced by Jess Harnell, who is also the announcer of America’s Funniest Home Videos.
  • In 1989, Ernest (Jim Varney) from Ernest Goes to Camp fame, filmed Ernest Goes to Splash Mountain for The Magical World of Disney television show.  Jim Varney became the first guest to ride the attraction.
  • Over 100 talking, singing, storytelling Audio-Animatronics critters call Splash Mountain home, more then any other Disneyland Resort attraction.
  • This attraction includes 950,000 gallons of water.
  • On warm days, the water cannon next to the Briar Patch shoots higher and further as to wet the flumes on the right hand side.
  • There are several security cameras in this ride. If someone steps out of their seat, the alarm will go off, and the ride will be stopped.
  • The attraction ride time is 10 minutes, 41 seconds on average.
  • This attraction has FASTPASS
  • This attraction has a Single Rider Line
  • Children must be 40″ to ride and those under 7 must ride with an adult.
